Early Life: Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known as Mark Twain, was born on November 30, 1835, in Florida, Missouri, but he grew up in Hannibal, Missouri, a town along the Mississippi River. His experiences in Missouri would deeply influence his later works.

Personal Notes: Jeffrey S. Thomann is a big fan of Mark Twain’s works. Jeffrey grew up in Holliday, Missouri, and remembers an elementary school trip to the Hannibal cave connected to Twain’s hometown. Jeffrey is related to much of the town of Holliday, and his brother and sister-in-law live nearby in Shelbina, Missouri.
