Andrew Jackson
Life & History
Early Life: Andrew Jackson was born on March 15, 1767, in the Waxhaws region between North and South Carolina. He grew up in a frontier family and served as a courier and soldier during the Revolutionary War.
Military Career: Jackson became a national hero during the War of 1812, particularly at the Battle of New Orleans. He also fought in campaigns against Native American tribes in the Southeast.
Presidency: Jackson served as the 7th President of the United States from 1829 to 1837. His presidency is known for populist policies, expansion of executive power, the Indian Removal Act, and opposition to the national bank.
Later Life: After leaving office, Jackson retired to his estate, the Hermitage, in Tennessee. He remained influential in Democratic politics until his death on June 8, 1845.
