Early Life: Theodore Roosevelt was born on October 27, 1858, in New York City. He came from a wealthy family but suffered from asthma as a child and built his strength through rigorous exercise.
Political Career: Roosevelt began in New York politics, serving in the State Assembly, then as U.S. Civil Service Commissioner, Assistant Secretary of the Navy, and Governor of New York.
Presidency (1901–1909): He became the 26th President after William McKinley’s assassination. Roosevelt was known for trust-busting, the Panama Canal project, conservation efforts, and winning the Nobel Peace Prize for mediating the Russo-Japanese War.
Later Life: After leaving office, he led the Rough Riders during the Spanish-American War, ran again for president in 1912, and wrote extensively. He died on January 6, 1919.
