Life & History

Early Life: Herbert Hoover was born on August 10, 1874, in West Branch, Iowa. He was orphaned at a young age and raised by relatives, later attending Stanford University where he studied engineering.

Career Before Presidency: Hoover became a successful mining engineer and humanitarian. He gained international recognition for organizing food relief efforts in Europe during and after World War I.

Presidency (1929–1933): Hoover became the 31st President of the United States. His presidency was dominated by the Great Depression, which began shortly after he took office. He attempted to address the crisis with limited government intervention, but many Americans felt his response was insufficient.

Later Life: After leaving office, Hoover worked on government reform and wrote extensively. He lived a long life and died on October 20, 1964, becoming one of the longest-lived former presidents.
